MIPS Highlights 2024 – Q1

The start of a new year means it’s time to attest for MIPS! Keep an eye out for emails from Verana notifying you of tasks that need completion, as well as when your data is ready for submission. Your Verana Practice Experience Manager (PEM) or an EyeMD EMR Application Specialist will be happy to assist you with your attestation.

DEADLINE FOR MIPS 2023 ATTESTATION IS MARCH 31, 2024

Looking forward to MIPS 2024

Please continue to work with your Verana Health IRIS registry Practice Experience Manager (PEM) on a regular basis to review your Quality Dashboard to avoid end-of-year attestation surprises.

2024 Important Deadlines:

March 31, 2024 – Complete 2023 MIPS submission to CMS via IRIS Registry Dashboard

July 4, 2024 – First day of the final 180-day attestation period for Promoting Interoperability

September 30, 2024 – Final request for mapping refinements of your Verana Quality Dashboard

October 3, 2024 – First day of the final 90-day attestation period for Improvement Activities

December 31, 2024 – Complete all patient encounters for 2024.

December 31, 2024 – Deadline to apply for Extreme & Uncontrollable Circumstances (EUC) Exception & Promoting Interoperability Exception

If you have any questions regarding the IRIS Registry or your Quality Dashboard, please reach out to your assigned Practice Experience Manager (PEM) or Verana at 877-837-2621.

EyeMD EMR Version 1.0 Is No Longer Supported
IRIS Registry no longer supports EyeMD EMR version 1.0. If you are still using EyeMD EMR version 1.0, you will need to create an attestation plan using an alternative method.

The Automatic Promoting Interoperability Small Practice Exception is available for 2024.

The Extreme & Uncontrollable Circumstances (EUC) Exception is available in 2024 but must be applied for and approved by CMS. Please note that this exception is not automatically granted; CMS frequently denies applications.

Focus on Promoting Interoperability

The transition from FigMD to Verana was the hot-button topic for 2023. With this now completed, our MIPS Quarterly Newsletters in 2024 will focus on Promoting Interoperability (PI) and how to successfully meet the recently changed requirements for this part of the MIPS program.

For 2024, CMS will continue to offer automatic reweighting of PI for practices that qualify under Special Statuses.

You will automatically be reweighted if:

  • Your practice has fewer than fifteen (15) providers.
  • You qualify under the special status criteria, and you do not report any PI data during your attestation.

Practices with over fifteen (15) providers or that do not meet the special status criteria will still be required to attest to PI unless they apply for and receive an approved exception.

If your practice plans to attest to PI, please carefully review the requirements at Promoting Interoperability Performance Category: Traditional MIPS.

Future editions of MIPS HIGHLIGHTS 2024 will delve into details of each PI measure but pay special attention to these changes and key points:

  • Attestation period has increased from 90 days to 180 days (July 4 is the last day to begin attestation)
  • Providers must enable eRX, PDMP, patient portal, API, and electronic case reporting.
  • Security Risk Analysis is required.
  • SAFER guide is required.

If you have questions regarding your PI report in EyeMD EMR or how to effectively meet the PI requirements, please reach out to our training department at 877-239-3367, option 4.

Worldwide Cloud Outage Impact

A software update from the cybersecurity company CrowdStrike has inadvertently disrupted IT systems globally. Although most of our systems were unaffected, our primary remote support tool (LogMeIn Rescue) is currently offline. Consequently, our remote support capabilities have been impacted. Our support team is unable to access customer systems using this tool. However, we can connect to remote systems using an alternative, customer-initiated tool. As a result, we are unable to perform certain remote tasks, which may lead to support delays and cancellations. Additionally, our credit card processing partner, Nexio, is currently unable to process credit card transactions, and certain eligibility checks are failing. We thank
